Disrespectful kid

I had a male student in my class the first week of school that said something disrespectful to me. I came in class that Friday and I asked everyone how things were going since it was the last day for the week. He stated that it wasn't going to good and I asked him why and he responded by saying that he had too put up with me. I could tell that he was trying to test me since I was a new teacher. I didn't over react I asked him kindly to step out in the hall. We discussed what he said and I told him that was an inappropriate comment. I told him that this would be his one and only warning and that he was not to say anything like that in my class anymore or I would write him up. He respected me for not getting on to him in front of the class and he hasn't been a problem since that incident. As a matter of fact he has been a wonderful student since that situation.
